Digital library is equipped with 32 multimedia computers having high speed internet connectivity. The library is granted with VTU e-resource Consortium membership for the subscription of e-resources. The following e-resources are available in the digital library.
The IEEE Xplore digital library is a powerful resource for the discovery and access to technical content published by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and it acts as its publishing partner. It provides web access to more than 3-million full text documents from some of the world’s most highly cited publications in electrical engineering, Computer Science engineering and electronics engineering. The content of the IEEE Xplore comprises over 170+ journals, 1400+ conference proceedings, and 5100+ technical standards. It provides access to full page pdf images, and all original charts, graphs, diagrams, photographs and illustrative materials.
NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which provides e-learning, through online Web and Video courses in various branches such as Engineering, Science and humanities. It is the result of initiative taken up by seven IITs viz IITs of Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee and IISc, Bengaluru is especially for promoting course contents in engineering and science. Engineering branches such as Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical and core science programme for students at the undergraduate engineering level were selected. Contents for the above courses are based on the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi of main affiliating Universities.
OPEN ACCESS RESOURCES
This covers free services of text books, qualitative scientific journals meant for scholars. Open access journals as journals that use the funding model not charging readers or their institutions for access. They allow users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles. The aim and scope of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and to simplify the use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact on knowledge.
National Digital Library of India
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Commission on Education through Information and Communication Technology has initiated the National Digital Library (NDL) to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. It is being developed at IIT Kharagpur. NDL provides support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular form of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is being developed to help students to prepare for entrance and competitive examination, to enable people to learn and prepare from all over the world and facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources.
Salient Features of National Digital library
Educational materials are available for users ranging from primary to post-graduate levels.
NDL has been designed to benefit all kinds of users like students (of all levels), teachers, researchers, librarians, library users, professionals, differently abled users and all other lifelong learners.
Information can be personalized based on the education level, choice of language, difficulty level, media of content and such other factors. This is thus like a ‘customised service’ provided in a 24x7 integrated environment where learners can find out the right resource with least effort and in minimum time.
Repository hosts contents from multiple subject domains like Technology, Science, Humanities, Agriculture and others.
More than 60 types of learning resources are available - books, articles, manuscripts, video lectures, thesis, etc.
Materials are available in more than 70 languages.
Repository integrates contents from different Indian Institutional Repositories.
